Essentially an original piece of furniture, this table was based on several engravings from Thomas Chippendale’s, The Gentleman and Cabinet-maker’s Director.
The table design includes hand-carved fretwork on the table legs and around the skirt of the table, inspired by the pattern used by Thomas Affleck in the great Chew sofa at Cliveden. It is accented by corner brackets in the Chinese manner.
The table is finished with shellac, varnish and dark wax. The swirling figure of the claro walnut table-top resembles marble under appropriate lighting.
